You'll need a multimeter and service manual to tell you what wires to check and what resistances to expect. its pretty easy to do.

My 2012 450 Kodiak atv has no spark I wanted to know how to check the stator and pickup coil

google for a pinout on the stator plug or a service manual then get a multimeter and check for resistances acrossed each coil. should be semi low. they're just coils of wire.

I was riding my 2005 king quad 700 and it just died and I checked the plug and am getting no spark - would the coil go out just like that

coil, kill switch has grounded itself, pickup coil gone bad, etc. grab a multimeter, a service manual and start testing things.

No spark at spark plug could the coil be bad and how do you test it ?

put an insulation screw driver in the wire end that connects to the cap, obviously disconnecting it from the cap. Crank over and move metal part of screw driver next to some metal and you should see a spark coming from the wire to ground if coil is good.

2003 artic cat 400 no engine spark put new ignition coil on but still no spark what next?

It may be too simple but I have to ask, are you using a known good sparkplug, high tension lead and plug cap? Next is either the source coil isn't providing power to the "Black Box" or the pickup coil isn't sending a signal to the box to fire the sparkplug or finally the box itself is defective. To test further you will need a Shop Manual or Clymers manual and a VOM (Volt-Ohm Meter).

it should be a dc pulse. a digital meter might not be fast enough to show it. get a service manual and check resistances on the coil and pickup in the stator. dont forget to check the plug and spark plug cap.

spark plug, cap, cable, coil, pickup coil. get a service manual and test all of those to see if they're good.
